Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

This website and related community services (RSS / Stormworks servers) collect and store certain information linked to player accounts for authentication, community management, moderation, security, and gameplay-related features.

Information we collect

We may collect and store the following categories of data:

  • Steam account identifiers (SteamID64) and public Steam profile data such as display name and avatar image
  • Discord account identifiers when you link Discord to your Steam account
  • Account linkage between Steam and Discord, including when the link was created
  • IP addresses
  • Activity-related records, including server join counts and playtime statistics
  • Community roles and permissions assigned to your account
  • Ban and moderation records, including reasons, duration, expiry, moderator notes, and enforcement status
  • Discord guild membership status used for community features (where applicable)
  • In-game chat messages and related metadata (Steam display name or SteamID, message text, timestamps)
  • Gameplay and server activity events such as joins, leaves, deaths, vehicle spawns/despawns, and other server-reported log lines
  • Live server state shown on the website (for example recent chat lines, player lists, and map overlay data while you are connected to a server)

Steam IDs, Discord IDs, and IP addresses are treated as personal data because they can identify or track a person or account. Ban records, chat content, and moderation history are also user-related data.

Game server and Discord logging

Our Stormworks game servers report activity to community systems. Much of this activity is posted to Discord (per-server channels) for moderation, transparency, and operations.

This may include:

  • In-game chat: messages you send in game are forwarded to the matching server’s Discord chat feed, typically with your Steam display name (or SteamID if the name is unavailable) and the message text
  • Discord-to-game chat: messages you post in designated Discord channels may be relayed into the game and may also be logged to a consolidated Discord log
  • Join and leave events: when you connect or disconnect, including kick/ban-related leave reasons where applicable
  • Other gameplay events such as player deaths, vehicle spawn/despawn notices, and similar server-reported events

The public website Live Map page may display a short rolling buffer of recent in-game and Discord-relayed chat, plus live player/vehicle overlay data, to users viewing that server. This buffer is held in server memory and is cleared when appropriate (for example when a server restarts or when no players remain).

Messages and embeds sent to Discord remain subject to Discord’s own retention and visibility rules (channel history, permissions, and moderation tools). We do not control how long Discord retains channel content.

Why we collect this information

This information is used to:

  • Authenticate users through Steam OpenID on the public website
  • Link in-game players with Discord community accounts
  • Display profiles, leaderboards, and server status features
  • Manage roles, permissions, and supporter status
  • Enforce community and game server rules
  • Detect abuse, ban evasion, spam, cheating, or unauthorized access
  • Apply and enforce bans, including IP-based enforcement where necessary
  • Maintain security and operational integrity of the service
  • Log and review in-game chat and server events for moderation and community visibility on Discord
  • Operate live map and server status features on the website

IP addresses are stored primarily for security, abuse prevention, and ban enforcement.

Authentication and third-party services

  • Steam: Website login uses Steam OpenID. We receive your SteamID from Steam’s authentication flow. Your use of Steam is also governed by Valve’s privacy policy.
  • Discord: Discord account linking is performed through our Discord bot and website token flow, not by selling or licensing your data. Your use of Discord is governed by Discord’s privacy policy.

Who can see your data

We do not sell user data.

Information may be visible to authorized administrators and moderators for community management, support, and enforcement. This can include Steam IDs, Discord IDs or mentions, linked-account status, roles, ban history, IP addresses where relevant to enforcement, and game activity mirrored to Discord (including chat and join/leave feeds).

Some information (such as Steam display names, avatars, and leaderboard statistics) may be shown on public pages of this website.

Data retention

Some data may be retained for as long as your account exists or longer where needed for moderation, security, anti-abuse, and ban enforcement.

Records that may be retained indefinitely or for extended periods include:

  • SteamID and core account records tied to gameplay or community participation
  • Ban history and enforcement records (including expired or lifted bans)
  • Security-related records, including IP addresses
  • Aggregated playtime and join statistics
  • Chat and activity records stored in Discord channels (retention depends on Discord and channel settings)

Chat and events mirrored to Discord are retained according to Discord and channel settings. Short-term chat shown on the website live map is not kept as a permanent archive on the site itself.

Your choices and data requests

Steam and Discord links cannot be removed by you through this website. There is no self-service unlink option. Linking is intended to be persistent; changes are handled by staff only when appropriate.

You may still contact us with privacy questions or to ask about data we hold. We are not obligated to remove account links, and we may decline requests that would interfere with moderation, security, or community integrity.

Even if staff remove a Discord association, we may retain certain records required for moderation, security, or abuse prevention. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ban records and enforcement history
  • SteamID records associated with prior enforcement or abuse investigations
  • Security records, including IP addresses
  • Chat or activity already posted to Discord or used in moderation investigations

Removing a Discord link does not automatically delete Steam account data, playtime history, ban records, or historical in-game chat mirrored to Discord.
